Listening
to Student Voices:
Technology Contest for Students
By Peggy Steffens
The Arizona Technology in Education Alliance (AzTEA) is
sponsoring a contest for students from elementary school to
college to speak out about how they use technology in their
lives and what they wish their teachers knew about this use.
This contest is part of the Southern Chapter of AzTEA’s Teaching
and Technology conference, held in Tucson on Saturday, January
the 27th, 2007.
We are interested in hearing how students use digital tools like
cell phones and computers to learn something new, play, or
communicate with others. We also want them to tell us what they
would like teachers to know about how they should be using these
tools to help students learn.
The top student or team in each participation category
(elementary, middle, high school, and community
college/university) will be asked to participate in a panel
discussion at the conference with noted technologist Alan
November. They will also receive a $100 (individual) or $200
(team) gift certificate.

Teaching and Technology Conference
The 15th Annual Teaching and
Technology Conference will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007
at Pueblo High School. Each year the conference brings in
nationally renowned key note speakers along with outstanding
presentations and hands-on sessions. This year the conference
is featuring Alan November. Alan
does not believe that the technology itself is important; he
believes it is the way we use it. His ideas about global
communication, collaboration, assessment, and critical thinking
have inspired audiences around the world to rethink and redefine
their approach to education and technology. Alan will be
infusing the ideas from local students from the Listening
Student Voices contest into his keynote speech. Come hear
this outstanding speaker, visit the exhibitors and attend
outstanding presentations.
