Maintaining the Video Projector
by Claudio Araya

Remember to clean and maintain your video projector regularly. It’s a good idea to do this on a monthly basis. Video projectors, especially the ones hanging from the ceiling, get dirty and must be cleaned. When the projector gets too much dirt in the intake filter, the projector will heat up faster than usual and will reduce the life of the lamp. Sometimes the projector will prompt you to “Clean Filter.” This prompt may not go away until you clean the filter and clear the “Filter Hours” setting.

To clean an Epson projector filter, you must reach over the lens at the front of the projector and pull the filter forward. The projector bracket is designed to allow the removal of the filter without removing the projector from the bracket. You can remove the dirt by blowing on it but it is a good idea to use a can of compressed air. It is also a good idea to clean the rest of the projector. Once the filter is cleaned and placed back in the projector you must go to the settings part of the menu and clear off the “Filter Hours.” Make sure you only clear the “Filter Hours” and not the “Lamp Hours.” as both those options are in the same setting.

To clean an NEC or Hitachi projector you will find the filters on the side of the projector. You can remove the filters by pulling up and follow the same steps as with the Epson. Most brackets are designed to allow for easy removal, but if your bracket does not allow the removal of the filters you must call Claudio at 6214 or e-mail caraya@amphi.com.
