Introduction to the Internet
Technological Objective - Standard 1:
The students will learn how to open Netscape
The students will explore the program, Yahooligans
The students will learn how to scroll
The students will learn how to go "back"
Pre-Requistite Technology Skills
Basic keyboarding skills
Materials
A computer with any Internet service.
Averykey connected to the computer.
Accomodations for Special Needs
The students will be in partners, this will help the special needs of the child.
Use of the averkey for a visual resource.
Procedures
- Have the students sit in a group in front of a computer.
- Model how to "double click" on the NetScape Key.
- Wait for the Internet to come up on the screen.
- While waiting, show and tell the students that they are not to touch any keys when the comets are flying because it is "thinking."
The school’s home page will be the first screen. Show the students the arrows on the side of the screen to "scroll down." They need to hold the mouse button down and drag.
- Drag down to, Yahooligans, and double click to access.
- Show them all the different areas to click on and how it takes them to different sites in the program.
- If they want to "go back," they need to click on the back button.
- The students will then go to a computer, in partners, and explore.
- Use the averkey to go through the steps again. Show the students how to access NetScape, scroll down to Yahooligans, and "go back."
- When it is time to go, use the averkey to model how to exit the program.
Assessment
I will assess that the students were able to access the Internet and explore Yahooligans.

The students will go to KidPix if we can not access the Internet.
