Exploring the Desert

Objectives

    1. Students will communicate their understanding of the rules and consequences.
    2. Students will use their cooperative skills while sharing the computer and discussing the site with another classmate.
    3. Students will use their prior knowledge of the desert to help them understand the What’s It Like Where You Live site.
    4. Students will use their listening skills to follow directions and to communicate to their partners.
    1. Students will practice getting from new screen to the previous screen by using the Back button.
    2. Students will learn how to get from previous screen to the next screen by using the Forward button.

April 9, 1999

 

 

  1. Have students turn on the computer.
  2. Have students click on "Monkeys click here" icon.
  3. I will read the introduction. The students will listen.
  4. Have students click on "What is a Desert like?" and then I will read the information.
  5. Ask a predicting question "What types of deserts are there?" Get answers before clicking onto "Types of Deserts".
  6. Ask a predicting question "What causes Deserts". After getting answers then have them click on the "What causes deserts" and read the answer.
  7. Have students click on the "Deserts of the world" to see where the deserts are located. Have them compare how much of US is covered with deserts versus another continent such as Africa.
  8. Have students click onto "desert plants" and then I will read what it has to say.
  9. I will ask all of the side questions singularly, and wait for students to buddy buzz with their partners about their answers before having them click on each question for the answer.
  10. When finished, have the students click on the back button to go back to previous screen.
  11. Have students click on to the "Desert at Night" and I will read what has been written.
  12. The students will show "teachers" how to quit, exit, and shut down the computer.
