  1. TITLE: MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AROUND THE WORLD
  1. OBJECTIVES:
  1. ACADEMIC: The students will successfully write a report about musical instruments around the world.
  2. TECHNOLOGICAL: The students will manipulate on-site instructions to gather information: they will read about and listen to various instruments from around the world, using the Internet, and print information that they have gotten from the Internet.
  1. PRE-REQUISITE TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: 1) how to turn on computer; 2) log onto internet; 3) type in address; 4) follow on-site instructions
  1. MATERIALS: a Hewlett Packard PC; access to Netscape/Internet; a printer; URL is http://www.eyeneer.com/World/Instruments/index.html (Eyeneer instruments site)

  1. PROCEDURES:
  1. Prior activities included their experiences with our classroom instruments and recordings; also, prior musical pieces which we have studied
  2. tell class that today they will divide into small groups to use the Internet to gather information about instruments from around the world to do a small group report about the instruments they see (and hear)
  3. divide class into small groups (2 or 3 to each computer)
  4. groups enter URL and go to site: click on area of interest (for example, "Africa"; click on instrument of interest; read about and record interesting facts about the instrument and listen to a short example of its sound (click on the picture to hear it, then click on "Open it", then "OK")
  5. students print the page from the Internet by hitting the "print" icon/word
  6. students may gather information about several instruments, but written report should be about only one which they choose; when facts are gathered, small group will write a short report about the instrument and present the report to the class
  1. ASSESSMENT: Each group will write a short report based on the information they have gathered and present the report to the class.
