Objectives
Academic
- Students will be able to access TrackStar (http://scrtec.org/track/index.html), type in Schiffman under keyword search, locate the correct site and gain information about the many different American symbols such as the U.S. flag, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Washington Monument, Uncle Sam, Abraham Lincoln.
- Students will gain extend and enhance their classroom based knowledge using the Internet and be able to discuss the answers asked on the TrackStar in a cooperative setting.
Technological
- Students will be able to access TrackStar (http://scrtec.org/track/index.html), use the keyword search to locate the sites created by the teacher, then chose from the table of contents the correct site. (Standard One)
Pre-Requisite Technology Skills
- The students will need some familiarity with the computer keyboard, the mouse, and some background knowledge of navigating within the Windows 95/Internet environment.

Accommodations for Special needs
None at this time. Potential accommodations for students who have some difficulty following directions or navigating within the Windows95/Internet environment, pairing with another student or one-on-one with the instructor.
Procedures
- Students will access the Internet through Netscape Navigator.
- Students will access http://scrtec.org/track/index.html and type in the name of Schiffman under the key word search.
- Students will chose Greatest Symbols of America under the table of contents.
- Students will access the "frames" portion of the site.
- Students will be able to individually view the different sites listed under the Greatest Symbols of America TrackStar site.
- Students will visit and explore the various websites in order to gain more information about the U.S. flag, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Washington Monument, and Abraham Lincoln.
- Students will exit Netscape Navigator and shut down their computers.
- In the classroom, students will discuss with a partner the different things that they learned.
Assessment
Students will:
- be able to show mastery in accessing the different assigned URLs.
- gain some basic knowledge regarding the different American Symbols.
- be able to discuss the different symbols with a partner.
