Student Writing Center - How to make a Robot

 

Objectives

Academic: Students will write directions to follow to make your very own robot.

Arizona State Standards:

R-F1 Use phonetic skills to decode words

R-F3 Use reading comprehension strategies such as drawing conclusion, summarizing, making predictions, identifying cause and effect, and differentiating fiction from non-fiction

W-F2 Use correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and word usage, and good penmanship to effectively complete a variety of writing tasks

W-F4 Gather, organize, and accurately, clearly and sequentially report information gained from personal observation and experiences such as from a science experiment, field trips, and classroom visitors

Technological: Students will use Student Writing Center to type the final draft of their robot directions.

State Tech. Standard 1 Students develop the essential technology skills for using and understanding conventional and current tools, materials and processes.

State Tech. Standard 2 Students know how to solve current problems by using current technologies to conduct research, analyze solutions and present results.

Pre-requisite Technology Skills the students should have prior instruction on how to open and use Student Writing Center.

Materials A computer with Student Writing Center access, a printer, and the edited copy of students robot directions.

Procedures 1. Teachers and students will discuss process followed to make our robot. 2. Students will be given paper needed to organize their ideas and will write four steps

the group followed when making our robot. 3. Teachers will meet individually with students once writing is completed to assist in the editing process. 4. Once all papers are edited, group will meet to discuss different steps. Steps will be written out on sentence strips and students will work as a team to organize steps sequentially. 5. Students will then type directions using Student Writing Center program. Students will also be encouraged to use appropriate graphics on their paper.
