Student Writing Center – "Merle The High Flying Squirrel"

Objectives

Academic: Students will write the "good copy" of their prediction sentence for the story "Merle The High Flying Squirrel".

Arizona State Standards:

W-F2 Use correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and word usage, and good penmanship to effectively complete a variety of writing tasks

W-F4 Gather, organize, and accurately, clearly and sequentially report information gained from personal observation and experiences such as from a science experiment, field trips, and classroom visitors

Technological: Students will use Student Writing Center to type the final draft of their prediction sentence.

State Tech. Standard 1 Students develop the essential technology skills for using and understanding conventional and current tools, materials and processes.

State Tech. Standard 2 Students know how to solve current problems by using current technologies to conduct research, analyze solutions and present results.

Pre-requisite Technology Skills The student should have prior instruction on how to open and use Student Writing Center.

Materials A computer with Student Writing Center access, a printer, and the edited copies of the students prediction sentences.

Procedure 1. Before reading the story "Merle The High Flying Squirrel" students will write an interactive sentence as a group. Group will use resources (ie. peers, dictionaries, and word wall) to edit as they write. 2. Students will then type prediction sentence using Student Writing Center program.
