Lesson Title: Printing and Dinosaur Patterns

OBJECTIVES

Academic

Language Arts, Standard 4: Viewing and Presenting

· Students will respond to icons by clicking on appropriate pictures

Language Arts, Standard 3: Listening and Speaking

· Students will follow simple directions

Mathematics, Standard 3: Patterns, Algebra And Functions

· 3M-R1: Create, describe, and extend a variety of patterns

Technological

Standard 1: Technology skills

· Students will perform basic computer operations, such as printing.

 

PRE-REQUISITE TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

· Students should be proficient in using the mouse to click, double-click, and click-and-drag

MATERIALS

PROCEDURES

  1. Prior to the lesson, teacher should have students draw a picture of a printer. Later, teacher should show the students the picture of the "print" function in Netscape Communicator.
  2. Teacher turns on computers and accesses the bookmark.
  3. Students are to print the page (as attached)and return to their seats.
  4. Upon returning to their seats, write their name on their papers, and complete the patterns by circling the correct pattern extension.
  5. Students are to discuss, in pairs, which dinosaurs they are able to identify based on classroom thematic studies.
  6. Those finished early may try to phonetically spell the dinosaur’s names next to the appropriate pictures.

ASSESSMENT

By collecting and looking over the worksheet, the teacher may evaluate their pattern extension abilities. Listening to team partnerships will allow the instructor to determine if students can identify different dinosaurs by their names. Letter/sound identification may be assessed by any student writing on their papers by specific dinosaur pictures.
