Desert Animals
Objectives
Academic: Standard 4 Science ; Investigate several desert animals and their lifestyles in the desert.
Technological: Standard 1; To use a Hotlist to find general information using various websites.
Pre-Requisite Technology Skills
Students should be able to navigate a computer desktop using the back, scroll up and down arrows, enter keys.

Accommodations for Special Needs
This can be a partner activity if necessary to pair one child with another. Also, this activity involves drawing, writing, reading and listening. Pairing children of varied strengths would be beneficial.
Procedures
1. This is an introductory follow up to a lesson on desert animals. After reading a book about desert animals, children could go to the computers and use some of their knowledge and gain new facts.
2. Computers should be set on the URL above. Explain that the children are going to be learning more about desert animals and they should write down any ideas in their notebooks.
3. This lesson works well if the class moves together with the teacher. The teacher should read the lesson and then answer any questions. Modeling answers would also be helpful for the first question.
4. Pictures or words can be used to answer the questions. Information is more important at this time than format.
5. Conclude lesson with a group sharing time back in the classroom. Make a chart of what we learned about each animal.
Assessment
This lesson should be assesses on group participation, meeting the objectives of navigating the hotlist--even if both completed, obtaining answers to information asked, content of notebooks.
