Academic: Standard 1 Language Arts; To learn basic informational facts about Sweden to prepare for reading stories set in Sweden.

Technological: Standard 2; To access and use information to gain knowledge about a subject via the internet.

Students should be familiar with the hardware of a computer and be able to navigate through several internet sites.

Some students may need this quiz to be read to them. This is probably done best in partner situations.

1. This is an introduction to the country of Sweden, prior to reading books set in Sweden.

2. Set computers to URL before class. This URL is too long for 1st graders to copy.

3. Students can go ahead and take the quiz in partners situations. They should read all of the information provided with the teacher as a leader.

4. When students finish the quiz they can print it out and mark the right answers for future reference.

There should be a review and discussion of the quiz after the lesson. What did you learn? Each team should be given time to share their information. A chart can be made to post during the reading of the books set in Sweden, to serve as an on-going source of information. This was a fact finding mission. Active participation is the goal.
