Accommodations for Special Needs
Some students may need help navigating these games if they have not had previous experience doing so. The teacher should remain close by to assist.
Procedures
1. This lesson is designed for students to evaluate a game they play on the internet through a series of questions.
2. Set computers to URL before class. This URL is too long for 1st graders to copy. Mix up the students so that every third computer is set to the same site. This allows for more independent work to happen.
3. Students should first play the game. After the game is complete they can answer the questions on their worksheet. They might want to go back and play the game again once they start their worksheet.
4. Remind students they need to support their answers by making sure they give the WHY to their answers.
Assessment
There should be a review and discussion of the games after the lab time. Let the students share their review sheets with the class. Push the students to discuss the reasons for their answers. Let students disagree about their reviews and help them support their own personal ideas. Make sure they know that there are no wrong answers if they are supported answers.
