Subject: Math Games, Math Challenge Preparation

Objectives:

Academic: Students will go to Keeling Cougar Home page (http://www.amphi.com/~mschaefe/page9.html) which can be accessed on the desktop. They will follow sequential directions and go through several screens to prepare for a math facts game. A partner will time them to help prepare for the math challenge.

Technological: Same as above, requiring them to go through several screens to locate game.

Pre-Requisite Technology Skill:

Students will need to know how to start the computer, use the mouse, and basic keyboarding skills. They will need to go through several screens.

Materials: P/C with internet access, URL info.

Special Needs:

None at this time.

Procedures:

  1. Students will access the Internet through Netscape Navigator.
  2. They can go to lighthouse icon (our homepage symbol) or type in URL listed above.
  3. From that page they will go to "A+ Math Games" and double click on.
  4. On the left side of the screen there will be choices, they will click on Game Room.
  5. Then, on the right side of that screen is a game called "Hidden Picture".
  6. They will choose which level (+, ---, X) is appropriate and begin.
  7. A partner will time them to see how long it takes.
  8. A Hidden Picture is revealed when they complete the task.
  9. Partners then switch and encourage each other!!
  10. Students will properly shut down the computer.

Assessment:

Teacher will monitor and students can record times in hopes to improve on a Math Challenge program that our school participates in.
