Trackstar Lesson: Vocabulary Building Activities
Objectives:
Academic:
Activity 1: Students will be able to read and follow directions from the teacher on the
Trackstar, create, and complete a Wordsearch Puzzle from a vocabulary list provided by
the teacher. (R-F 1, R-F2, R-F7)
Activity 2: Students will be able to read and follow directions on the Trackstar, read vocabulary words and match them to the corresponding pictures in the Lost Treasure Matching Game. (R-Fl, R-F2, R-F7)
Technological: Standard 1.
Pre-Requisite Technology Skills:
Students should be familiar with basic technology skills such as using the mouse, keyboard, technology vocabulary, and URLs.
Materials:
1. Computers with Internet access to Netscape and Peggy Steffen's Home Page.
2. Site for Trackstar URL http:Hscrtec.org/track/tracks/fD90l.html.
3. Site location URL: puzzlemaker. school. discovery.com/WordsearchS etupForm.html.
4. Site location URL: http://funschool.com.
5. Vocabulary list of words from the current spelling lesson or thematic unit for the
students to use in their Wordsearch Puzzles.
Procedure:
1. Open your browser to the Internet.
2. Go the the URL for Diane Cribbs'Trackstar: http:Hscrtec.org/track/tracks/fD90l.html.
3. Follow directions at that site.
Assesment:
The teacher will monitor and observe the students. Students will create and then complete
their own Wordsearch Puzzles in class or for homework.
