Objectives:

Academic: The students will identify and name the nine planets. The students will discover and record their weight on other planets.R-F1, R-F2, R-F3, R-F4, R-F7, W-F4, W-F5

Technology: The students will locate Internet sites and use the information that they find to complete the assignment given. Standards 1 and 2

Pre Requisite Technology Skills: The students will be able to enter specific web sites using URLs, menus, the icons, and the keyboard.

Materials: Computer with Internet access, http://www.exploratorium.edu/ronh/weight/index.html

Your Weight In Other Worlds Worksheet

Student’s weight in pounds

Procedures:

  1. Turn on the computer
  2. Find the Netscape icon and double click
  3. Enter the URL in the location box
  4. Enter your weight in the box indicated
  5. Click on the box that says calculate
  6. Record the names of the 9 planets on your worksheet (scroll down for planet number 9)
  7. Record your weight on each planet
  8. Turn in your worksheet

Assessment:

Teacher will observe student output and behavior. Teacher will collect and compare student data.
