Little Tykes Space Flight

Students blast off for a journey through our solar system, build a space station and walk on Mars as they complete a mission in space. Pre-readers and early readers will be able to navigate this visual site with ease. Students with reading ability will be able to complete more in-depth navigation.

Objectives

Reading and oral language practice, identification of planets, identification of space vehicles, familiarity with space stations, hands-on experience watching a rocket launch, completion of puzzle, assembly of space station.

Technology skills reinforced include mouse practice, click and drag, printing, scrolling and link navigation.

Accomodations for special needs

Joystick or other adaptable mouse alternative. Visual site is set up so that non-readers do not need to be paired with readers, children may work at their own computers.

Procedures

a. Open the computer Browser by clicking on it two times.

b. Locate the Bookmark for the site. Click on it.

c. Follow instructions on TrackStar.

Assessment

Teacher observation of technological procedures, matching memory puzzle results, and group discussion following completion of the site.
