Satellite Sleuth – Track a Bat in Arizona

Objectives
Students will learn to read geographic colorings in Satellite images, reinforce reading skills, keep track of data on a map print out, take a virtual tour of Arizona and learn about bat echolocation as they follow a bat throughout Arizona. Students will learn about remote satellite imagining. Students practice reading skills.
Technology skills reinforced include mouse practice, click and drag, printing, scrolling and link navigation, using computer Trackstar, internal computer calculator, fluctuating between computer word processing program and internet, keeping track of data on a map they’ve printed of Arizona.

Materials
Accomodations for special needs
Joystick or other adaptable mouse alternative. Pair non-readers with readers.
Procedures
a. Open the computer Browser by clicking on it two times.
b. Locate the Bookmark for the site. Click on it.
c. Follow instructions on TrackStar.
Assessment
Correct completion of the map students printed out and logged Echo’s trail on. Students must have followed written instructions and learned to accurately read remote satellite images during this lesson or map will not be accurate.
