Rosa Parks…an American Heroine
Lesson designed for women’s history month and/or black history month.
Objectives
Academic:
Students will use accurate spelling and punctuation skills.
Students conduct historical research.
Students will write a letter to a living heroine from America’s history.
Students will learn about issues leading to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Technological:
Students will smoothly move back and forth between internet screen and word processing program.
Students will gather internet information to fill out questions from a handout.
Students will correctly type in a URL.
Students will conduct an internet search.
Students will compose a letter using keyboard with an address they’ve acquired from the internet.
Pre-Requisite Technology Skills
Materials
Accomodations for special needs
Joystick or other adaptable mouse alternative. Pair non-readers with readers.
Procedures
Instruct students to follow directions on handout.
Instruct students to follow normal file saving procedures before printing.
Instruct students to return finished documents to teacher.
Instruct students to correctly logout of or shutdown their computers.
Assessment
Student ability to correctly follow directions on handout.
Student use of correct answers on handout.
Student ability to write a letter to Rosa Parks.
Student knowledge of computer terminology on handout.
Student’s ability to navigate the internet and fluctuate between word processing program and internet browser.
