Take Flight With Butterflies!

Pre-readers and early readers will be able to navigate this visual site with ease. Students with reading ability will be able to complete more in-depth navigation.

Objectives

Students will learn the lifecycle of the butterfly.

Students will watch a video of a live caterpillar spinning a chrysalis.

Students will watch a video of a live butterfly emerging from a chrysalis.

Students will work a puzzle.

Students will create their own computer generated butterfly.

Students will follow computer step-by-step instructions to make a butterfly out of pipecleaners.

Technology skills reinforced include mouse practice, click and drag, printing, scrolling and link navigation.

Materials

Accomodations for special needs

Joystick or other adaptable mouse alternative. Visual site is set up so that non-readers do not need to be paired with readers, children may work at their own computers.

Procedures

a. Open the computer Browser by clicking on it two times.

b. Locate the Bookmark for the site. Click on it.

c. Read the instructions at the top of trackstar to the students as they navigate the site.

Assessment

Teacher observation of technological procedures, puzzle completion, ability to complete pipecleaner butterfly, and group discussion following completion of the site.
