Introduction

This lesson plan was developed as part of the Amphitheater School District Technology Literacy Challenge Fund grant. The purpose of the program is to provide teachers with a way of learning about technology and in turn provide students with the best teaching practices and curriculum through technology. This lesson plan was developed as part of the program's TLCF Science Guides, which are a series of web-based lessons designed by teachers to provide students with on-line educational opportunities in the area of science.

Frogs are fascinating!  Kids love frogs.  You will find three lessons on frogs for primary students.  In these lessons, students will  examine and diagram the life cycle of tadpole to frog. They will compare frogs and toads  answer questions, and then they can have fun viewing photos of frogs and coloring them. 

Lesson Objectives

Standard 4:  Life Science

Materials

  1. Computer lab.
  2. Paper, writing and coloring utensils for students.
  3. Access to the Internet for each computer.
  4. LIFE CYCLE DIAGRAM
  5. FROG/TOAD CHART
  6. COLOR THE FROG

Student Activity One

Students will view pictures of the development of a frog from a tadpole and read the accompanying text. They will then fill in a chart describing the life cycle of frogs and toads. To print out the cycle diagram click on  LIFE CYCLE DIAGRAM

  Student Activity Two

Students will view pictures of frogs and toads.  They will then fill out a chart to describe the and differences  between frogs and toads. To print out chart for students, click on FROG/TOAD CHART

Student Activity Three

In this lesson students will view various photos of frogs. They will answer five questions about frogs.  They will  listen to their calls and then choose one of the pictures to color.  To print out the pictures, click on Color the Frog below.

This site from Minnesota pollution control has nine pictures of frogs and toads that can be enlarged and printed out for students to color.

Students will look at pictures  and explore the various types of frogs and toads. They will listen to the calls and answer questions after reading the text. They will then choose one of the pictures to color.
