Introduction

This lesson plan was developed as part of the Amphitheater School District Technology Literacy Challenge Fund grant. The purpose of the program is to provide teachers with a way of learning about technology and in turn provide students with the best teaching practices and curriculum through technology. This lesson plan was developed as part of the program's TLCF Web Guides, which are a series of web-based lessons designed by teachers to provide students with on-line educational opportunities.

Come travel through Arizona as we look at state symbols and geography. Also learn about some famous people and places of Arizona.

Student Activity One

This lesson introduces students to the state symbols including, bird, tree, flower, flag, and nickname. This lesson also helps students feel comfortable using the Internet and several of the commands necessary for later lessons. State Birds

Traveling Through Arizona

Student Activity Two

For this activity, you need to have Acrobat Reader downloaded on your computer.  If you do not, here is a link for you to download it.

    This activity helps focus students on the geography of Arizona.  They will print out a map of Arizona, and have to analyze it and locate 8 cities/towns on the map.  Depending on the quality of your printer, you may want to print it out and make copies for them.  Then, after locating the towns, they need to pick one and make an advertisement on the back of their map.

    This site is a list of cities and towns of Arizona in Alphabetical order.  Some are links to that towns homepage.  This site then will be used for the third part of Activity 2.  The students can choose a link to a town's homepage in order to get information about that town for a poster advertising it.
 

Touring Through Tombstone

    This Activity is all about one of Arizona's most famous towns:  Tombstone, Arizona.  During this journey into Tombstone, students will learn about some town history, the infamous Fight at OK Corral, and some of the people involved in making Tombstone one of the most interesting towns in Arizona.
