Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to Cross-Cat K-2nd Grade! I look forward to another incredible year with your students. My name is Madelaine (Maddy) McGann and this is my third year teaching. I graduated from Northern Arizona University in May 2018 with a dual major in Elementary and Special Education. I was born and raised here in Tucson, Arizona. I went to all Amphi schools and am excited to stay in the district. I can’t wait to make this another amazing year with the students, parents and aides.
I became a teacher for multiple reasons. Growing up I always had trouble reading. I was tested and went into the Special Education program with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) to get help with reading. Some teachers thought that by calling on me to read out loud that would help me but it did not. Peers made fun of me when I read the word wrong. It wasn’t until high school where I helped out in a cross-cat classroom that a teacher saw something in me and believed in me. That’s when I knew I never wanted a student to feel the way I did. I want them to know that they are capable of learning and can achieve their goals. Each student learns differently and at different levels, which is okay. I want to meet them where they are academically and find tools to help them to be successful. It’s also about connecting with them on a personal level to find out who they are as an individual.
This is going to be another great school year that we won’t forget and we will continue to learn and make more memories!
