Welcome to Intrmediate Resource!
This year I am teaching 3rd and 4th grade resource math and Language Arts. I moved to Tucson 17 years ago from Charlotte, North Carolina. I have a B.S. in Recreational Therapy, a Masters in Health Care Administration and I have both 1st-6th grade elementary education and K-12 Special Education Teaching certificates. I have a daughter who graduated from the U of A with a degree in nursing and is a Nurse and officer in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego. I also have twins who are sophomores at the U of A. I taught in the middle school self-contained classroom for 7 years and for the past 3 years taught the K-2 elementary resource. I love reading, spending time with my family and traveling.
Defining Moment in Education
I was a student who struggled in elementary, middle, and high school. I had anxiety and frequently broke out in hives during elementary school. I had an Attention deficit but was never diagnosed. I was never taught executive function skills and I never learned how to study. I went to a small liberal arts junior college where I learned how to study. There was a study skills clinic and each student had an advisor who really seemed to care. By the end of my first year I was making A's and I graduated Suma Cum Laude. I transferred to a large University my junior year and continued to make A's throughout my bachelors and masters programs. I believe all students can learn and given the right tools and caring adults who inspire, motivate, and challenge them, each student can be successful in learning.
