Welcome to ELA 8 where our class motto is: relationships, rigor, relevance, and resilience. I look forward to meeting you and invite you to preview our course syllabus. My hope is that you grow as a learner, a problem solver, and as a creative, tech-savvy collaborator in ELA 8. Our year will consist of four units. First quarter, we will explore the thriller genre, write a personal narrative, and read The Graveyard Book and Croak. During the second quarter, we will conduct research and develop expository writing skills through Maus 1 and Voices of the Holocaust. Quarter three, we will write persuasive arguments and explore diversity by way of All American Boys. And in the final quarter, we will do a tech project and conduct literary analysis using Ender's Game. ELA 8 is a project-based learning class that incorporates reading, writing, speaking, listening, technology, film, and oral presentation.
