Course Information:
Course Enduring Understandings: 1.) The U.S. system of government requires active, informed, and tolerant citizens to function successfully; 2.) The U.S. system of government balances many principles: separation of powers, checks and balances, federalism, rights of the individual and representative democracy; 3.) U.S. inhabitants have many opportunities to participate and influence U.S. policies and representatives; and 4.) The Constitution is a living document that continues to guide the U.S.
Course Objectives: The purposes for this course will be to describe and analyze the American system of government by exploring the following areas: 1.) the foundations of the governmental system; 2.) our freedoms & civil rights; 3.) the politics of American democracy; 4.) the legislative, executive, & judicial branches of government, and 5.) Arizona state and local governments.
