    Course Description:   AZ College and Career Ready Standards drive instruction and provide a purpose for learning. The purpose of this course is to provide students, using texts of high complexity, language arts study in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language for college and career preparation and readiness.  The content of this course includes, but is not limited to the following:

    Writing Lab:

    • Focused on specific writing skills to improve overall understanding and proficiency levels within various genres of writing.
      • 6 traits of writing
      • Writing Process
      • Idea Diagram
      • Informative Essays
      • Persuasive Essays
      • Annotating Text
      • Paragraph and Essay Structure

    Language Arts

    • active reading of varied texts for what they say explicitly, as well as the logical inferences drawn
    • analysis of literature and informational texts from varied literary periods to examine:
    • writing for varied purposes
    • writing to sources using text- based evidence and reasoning effective listening, speaking, and viewing strategies with emphasis on the use of evidence to support or refute a claim in multimedia presentations, class discussions, and extended text discussions

    Academic Assignments/Grading Practice: All work assigned during remote learning will need to be completed and turned in by the due date specified. The following items are some of the most important pieces pertaining to remote learning grading practices:

    ·         Grades will be updated weekly

    ·         Check parent portal regularly

    ·         Parents will be contacted if there is a sudden or extreme drop in student grades

    ·         If there are any concerns or special circumstances please contact me asap

     

    Attendance: Attendance during your assigned Language Arts period on teacher-led instruction days (Monday/Thursday) and student-led instruction days (Tuesday/Friday) is required and will be taken daily.

    • 1 folder
    • Pencils, pens, highlighters

    Course Assessment:  Students will be graded using the following assessments:

    • Daily classroom participation, bellwork and homework
    • Vocabulary, grammar, and reading assignments
    • Writing assignment and tests

    Category Weights:

    • Bellwork, Grammar, Vocabulary-15%
    • Reading – 25%
    • Writing-30%
    • Assessments-30%
