International Baccalaureate Core
Canyon del Oro is an International Baccalaureate World School authorized to administer the Diploma Programme. The Diploma Programme curriculum includes six subject groups: language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and arts, and three required core components aimed "to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK), "in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know" (learn more);
- Extended Essay (EE), "which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper" (learn more);
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), "in which students complete a project related to those three concepts" (learn more).
I teach TOK, and I work with IB Coordinator Stephen Rothkopf and IB Liberrian to administer EE.

Juniors entering the IB Diploma Programme are expected to read chapters 1, 2, and 3 of Reuben Abel's Man Is the Measure (available in the CDO bookstore) before the fall semester begins.
