• Throughout the year, the more complex texts in the 7th grade Literature textbook will be assigned. Students can access this textbook, as well as multiple supplementary materials, through the Pearson website.  The link is on my assignments page.

Going beyond basic comprehension, students will analyze and evaluate the author’s craft in the fiction, nonfiction and poetry they read.  Beginning 2nd quarter, there will be emphasis on analyzing higher level vocabulary words, with a focus on Greek and Latin roots.

Outside of class, twice a year, students will read an assigned novel/full length book and write a full-length essay in response. During 2nd quarter, for example, Ms. Lefevre and Mrs. Jones (the humanities teacher) collaborate on lessons based on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

In addition to writing short essays (2-3 paragraphs) in response to reading selections, throughout the year, students will complete descriptive, persuasive, and expository essays in response to different prompts.  Students will also use the online Essay Scorer program to receive feedback as they revise their drafts.
