    Growing, Inspiring and Supporting Teachers in Amphitheater Public Schools

    Helping new teachers stay the course!

    Purpose: Two-year induction program to provide new teachers with effective support and opportunities to become independent problem solvers and thinkers, to increase competence in their practice and to inspire them to continue in the profession.

    Overview:

    Teachers brand new to teaching would participate in the following:

    Four (4) after school cohort meetings by feeder pattern:

    • September – Management focus (classroom, time, behavior, parent communication, student engagement)
    • November – Planning focus (student needs, differentiation, critical thinking, questioning, analyzing student work)
    • February – Assessment focus (summative vs. formative, class data, student work)
    • April – Closing down the School Year focus (procedures, self-evaluation/reflection using ATPES)

        Curriculum and Instruction Support Specialists (CISS) (non-evaluative):

    • One-on-one meetings
    • Observation Cycles (4) – Pre-Conference, Data Collection/Observation, Post Conference
    • Weekly walk through with Danielson focus
    • Additional support/collaboration as needed
    • Whisper Coaching (A CISS accompanies new teacher to observe master teacher(s))

    On-line Collaboration and Support:

    • Organized Blog with guided topics and discussions, reflections on cohort meetings
    • Danielson Bulletins with effective teaching strategies to meet target indicators

    On Site Mentor Support:

    • Monthly meeting with onsite mentor

    Teachers in their second year of teaching would participate in the following:

    • Two (2) after school cohort meetings (organization to be determined):
    • September – Effective classroom assessment and student data analysis
    • January – Effective classroom assessment and student data analysis
    • Curriculum and Instruction Support Specialists (CISS) (non-evaluative):
    • One-on-one meetings in August and January
    • Additional support/collaboration/observation cycles as needed
    • Monthly walk through with Danielson focus
    • On-line Collaboration and Support (Optional):
    • Organized Blog with guided topics and discussions, reflections on cohort meetings
    • Danielson Bulletins with effective teaching strategies to meet target indicators

    Relevant Trainings:

    • All teachers will be referred to Relevant Trainings as they pertain to individual teacher’s area of professional growth
