Prior Experience and Background
I graduated with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the SUC of NY at Fredonia. After graduation I moved to the Boston area and worked in a residential treatment facility for children. It was during that time that I realized I wanted to teach children with special needs. I returned to the Buffalo area, worked as a teacher’s assistant in a residential facility for teenage girls while pursuing my Master’s in Special Education. I received my M.S in Special Education from the SUC of NY at Buffalo.
Phase I of my teaching career spanned 11 years. I taught in a high school resource room in New York State and then moved to California where I taught Elementary students with learning disabilities. In 1991 my husband and I moved to Tucson and I stayed home to raise my 3 children. Phase II of my teaching career began 5 years ago after my 2nd child was going off to college. I obtained my Arizona Teaching certificate and have been at Harelson for the past 4 years. Our children attended Wilson, and graduated from Ironwood Ridge High School. Two of the three have graduated from college and our youngest is a sophomore. I feel very fortunate to now work in the district where my children attended school and am very happy to be part of the Harelson community.
