Students at Donaldson attend music class for 50 minutes each week. Students sing, dance, play instruments, compose simple songs, and gain an appreciation for many styles of music, past and present. Other content area objectives, such as English, Math, and Social Studies are often incorporated into the music lessons.
Students learn to read rhythms and music on the treble staff. Third graders play the recorders and develop the coordination and music reading skills necessary for band and orchestra (which is offered to 4th and 5th graders).
Musical performances are given throughout the year. Each student will participate in a performance, giving him/her the opportunity to learn rehearsal techniques and concert performance etiquette.
The goal for students is to have fun in music and to learn while participating in the many various activities throughout the year.
