My name is Tony Jacobsen and I have been an Assistant Principal at IRHS since the 2014-15 school year. I grew up in St. Paul, MN prior to moving to Tucson in 1990 to attend the University of Arizona. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics prior to landing a teaching job at Canyon Del Oro. I have two young boys that keep me busy by playing sports, keeping up with homework, and travelling the country when possible.
Defining Moment in Education
What brings me back on a daily basis is when a student has a realization of learning. It comes in all shapes and sizes and does not always occur at a content level. I, myself, am always learning and being a part of the process for a student is what is most rewarding.
Core Educational Beliefs
I believe in the growth of the whole student. During the High School years, we are developing adolescents into young adults. Students need to learn core concepts while being challenged and exposed to a multitude of opportunities that will engage them in their educational experience. Thus, sparking an interest or curiosity in a college or career path.
