Degrees and Certifications:
I have Bachelor's Degrees from NAU in both Special Education and Elementary Education. I hold an Arizona cross-categorical special education K-12 teaching certificate, and an elementary education teaching certificate. I also have an SEI endorsement.
Hello and Welcome! This is my 16th year at Coronado K-8, and my 26th year teaching special education. I feel thankful every day that I am part of such a wonderful school, with the most incredible staff and students! I love coming to school each day; I anticipate continuing to work here until I retire (which won't be anytime soon!) I've lived in Tucson for most of my life, and I love the weather so much I can't imagine ever moving away. I spend my time away from school outdoors as much as possible, and my summers at an RV park in the Gila mountains near Silver City, New Mexico. I love camping with my husband Mickey, riding on my quad and our side-by-side, reading, and playing with my dogs Daisy and Scarlett. I also have 3 turtles that came with our new house!
Core Educational Belief: I believe that all students can learn; some just learn much differently than others.
Prior Experience: After I graduated from NAU, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I taught students in a self-contained special education program for 10 years at 1 school. I was the Special Education department co-chair the last year I was there. During the summers, I taught summer school in the public school, and I also taught a specialized private summer program using the Hill Center Curriculum. I missed living in Tucson near my family, so I moved back here and taught special education math and english to middle school students at a school in TUSD for 1 year. I was fortunate to find my dream job, and have been the Special Education Facilitator and a resource teacher at Coronado K-8. Since I've been here, I've taught special education, general education, math and reading intervention classes, an advanced math class, ACHIEVE, and summer school.
