Welcome Message

Hello, Rio Vista Families!

I am excited to be starting my second year of teaching fifth grade at Rio Vista Elementary School!  I was fortunate enough to complete my student teaching at Rio Vista in a third grade classroom. Upon graduating from the University of Arizona, in December of 2016, I was given the opportunity to teach second grade for the remainder of the academic year. I am proud to call Tucson my home. Originally, I am from South Burlington, Vermont. However, after spending a few years in Tucson, I knew I would not be able to leave this wonderful city. It has been such a privilege getting to know the Rio Vista faculty, families, and students. I cannot wait for a fantastic 2018-2019 school year!

Defining Moment in Education

Prior to attending the University of Arizona, I spent three months traveling and teaching in Northern India. I had two teaching experiences: one with adults and one with children. The adults I worked with were refugees from Tibet and I helped them with their English skills. The children I worked with were kindergarteners in a rural village. Both experiences helped me gain a greater appreciation for education as a whole. It helped me realize how impactful teaching can be, no matter the age of the pupils.

Core Educational Belief

I view my students’ accomplishments as a shared success and it is my goal to enhance their learning by making each one of them feel valued. All students learn in a unique way and I believe it is my responsibility to guide them using techniques that allow them to maintain their individuality.  I implement hands-on activities throughout each one of my lessons to ensure that students understand they play a crucial role in their own learning. I expect students to work collaboratively each day in order to learn from one another and to build upon skills they already possess. Whether it is through assigned groups, table huddles, or partner work, I find that my students thrive by tapping into one another’s potential.
