Ms. Larissa Braden

Welcome to 2nd and 3rd grade English Language Development! My name is Ms. Braden, and I am delighted to have your child in my class for the 2020-2021 school year. Your scholar will study literature, science, and social studies with the goals of building stellar reading skills and passing the Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA.)

In this classroom, we are readers, writers, scholars, and creative and critical thinkers.

Defining Moment in Education

Education is a journey, so it's quite difficult to pick one defining moment! As a student, I was fortunate to have a number of outstanding teachers, but my 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teachers (Mrs. Dutton, Mrs. Hornberger, and Mrs. Godfrey) were truly exceptional. They showed me the impact that a caring and dedicated teacher can have by encouraging my curiosity.

One example that I will never forget was when I confided to Mrs. Dutton that the 4th grade spelling lists were too easy! She allowed me to create my own spelling lists out of SAT words. I would sit on the floor beside her while she gave spelling tests. She would say the words loudly for the rest of the class, and whisper my spelling words to me. It meant so much to me that she believed in me, and gave me the opportunity to challenge myself.

Core Educational Belief

I believe that every child can learn and succeed, and that it is our responsibility as teachers to ensure that all Amphitheater graduates are ready for college and career. To accomplish this, I will teach every child as an individual with different needs and learning styles. I am a firm believer in growth mindset: if you read, think, and do the work, you will learn and grow smarter!

I also believe in teaching creative and critical thinking skills; problem-solving skills; communication and collaboration skills; and leadership and technology skills.

Prior Experience

I started working at Rio Vista Elementary in the 2017-2018 school year as the Instructional Technology Specialist. My responsibilities included teaching technology skills to students in the computer lab; helping teachers integrate technology in their classrooms; coordinating computer-based assessments at Rio Vista; and maintaining all of our campus technology (including desktop PCs, Chromebooks, tablets, SmartBoards, document cameras, and phones.)
