Deanna Butler

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! I am a Tucson native and a proud graduate of Lulu Walker Elementary, Canyon del Oro Junior High School (last 8th grade class before Cross Middle School opened), Canyon del Oro High School, the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and The School of Hard Knocks.

I have roots in Mexico on my paternal grandmother's side of the family, but grew up speaking only English. I learned Spanish while living in Ecuador from 1994 to 1996 and lived in Bolivia from 2015 - 2017. I have also briefly visited Mexico, Spain, Nicaragua, Peru, and Haiti. I would love to travel, but chose a profession that doesn't always fund that dream.

I believe all students can learn and that it is my job as a teacher to find the most effective way to maximize each student's learning. I believe it is important to create a classroom environment where students are respected and are respectful to others, and where they feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes.

My prior teaching experience includes teaching upper intermediate grade students in self-contained classrooms, teaching English as a Second Language to multiple grade levels, and teaching Spanish in the elementary and middle school settings. I have taught 8th grade students in Spanish 1 classes for high school credit in both Phoenix and Tucson.
