Miss McGann

Welcome to first grade! I look forward to an incredible year with so many amazing first graders. My name is Maddy McGann and this is my first year teaching. I graduated from Northern Arizona University in May with a dual major in Elementary and Special Education. I was born and raised here in Tucson, Arizona. I went to all Amphi schools and am excited to stay in the district. I can’t wait to make this a memorable year and to incorporate a family within my classroom.

I became a teacher for multiple reasons. Growing up I always had trouble reading. I was tested and went into the Special Education program with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) to get help with reading. Some teachers thought that by calling on me to read out loud that would help me but it did not. Peers made fun of me when I read a word wrong. It wasn’t until high school when I helped out in a cross-cat classroom when a teacher believed in me. That’s when I knew I never wanted a student to feel the way I did. I want them to know that they are capable and can achieve their goals. Each student learns differently and at different levels, which is okay. It’s about meeting them where they are academically and finding tools to help them. It’s also about connecting with them on a personal level to find out who they are as an individual.

This is going to be our school year, Fabulous First Graders!
