Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Applied Science (Geological Engineering) Master of Science (Earth Science)
Mrs. Leslie Ferre
Hello! This is my first year as a teacher at La Cima, but I have been a Cardinal since I first walked into the school as a student teacher two years ago. Even though this is my first position as a newly-certified teacher, I have been working and volunteering in education over the past 10 years. I have experience in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education with students from preschool to middle school and this will be my fifth year as an Odyssey of the Mind (OM) coach.
In my first career, I worked as a consulting hydrogeologist in Arizona, Washington State, and Canada. I am the mother of two Dorados and my husband is a professor at the University of Arizona. I am a Canadian who has been living in Arizona for almost 20 years.
Defining Moment in Education and Core Educational Beliefs
As the child of two teachers, education has always been part of my life. However, my personal journey down this path began the day that a relative said to me "I can't understand that, it's science." Since then, I have been focused on helping students realize their innate scientific (and STEM) talents.
One thing that both OM and STEM have in common is failure. I hope to develop and nurture a classroom environment where students feel comfortable with the idea of failure so that they are willing to take intellectual risks.
