Ms. Teresa Garcia
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and my family moved to Tucson in 1969. My parents are from Chihuahua, Mexico and have been a strong cultural influence in my life. I've been lucky to enjoy the best of two worlds. Furthering my education beyond high school was very important to me. I saw how hard my own parents struggled and worked to provide for our family. They never even attended high school. I knew I could do better in life with a college degree to pursue a career. I became a nurse before becoming a teacher because I wanted a career where I could help others and make a difference. After working for 15 years as a nurse, I had the opportunity to acquire my teaching degree at the University of Arizona. I went for it and am so proud to have achieved it. I have now worked as a teacher for over 10 years and am so excited to have experienced so many special moments with my students. My career dreams have been fulfilled with the Amphitheater School District.
Defining Moment in Education My most inspiring change in my career came when I was offered the position of reading and math interventionist. I truly enjoy working with my small groups for all the primary grade levels. This helps me establish a stronger, personal bond between my students and allows me to work more effectively with them to address their individual needs. The pure joy I derive from my job on a daily and yearly basis is seeing how my students progress academically to approach grade level skills and seeing how motivated they are to analyze their own improvement as well.
Core Educational Belief
All students are capable of learning at their own individual rates. The closing of academic learning gaps comes with sincere caring on being able to provide them with a variety of research-based effective instructional tools and programs. Remember to throw in a little song and dance at times for fun.
I worked as an ESL instructor at La Cima Middle School the first two years of employment with the Amphitheater District.
