Welcome Message:
Welcome to 1st Grade! My name is Ashlyn Brown. This year starts my eleventh year of teaching and my third year at Innovation Academy.
I was born and raised in the Midwest. I completed most of my schooling in Kansas City, Missouri. I attended college at Kansas State University and received my Masters degree from Emporia State University. I have previously taught 2nd Grade in Kansas. I am a huge sports fan! I especially love watching college and professional football! Go K-State Wildcats and Kansas City Chiefs! I enjoy swimming, crafts, the outdoors, listening to music, attending concerts, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends. Teaching is truly my passion and I am thankful every day for the differences I can make within children’s lives.
Defining Moment in Education:
At a young age, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I attribute wanting to become a teacher, to my mom, as she is a teacher. I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps, but instead of high school students, my passion is for the younger grades.
My 8th and 9th grade Language Arts teacher instilled in me the kind of teacher I want to be for my students. As a teacher, Ms. Miller was always there for her students. She was easy to talk to, listened without judging, trustworthy and sincerely cared. She made learning exciting. I looked forward to attending her class every day. She is a teacher I will always remember, and I want my students to remember the great memories they make in school with me as their teacher!
My Educational Beliefs:
I believe that all students are capable of learning. As an educator, it is my responsibility to find the way in which each and every student learns best. Learning needs to be hands-on and engaging. Student interests help drive instruction. Building positive, trusting relationships with each student is especially needed for students to be successful in school.
My Prior Experience:
2nd Grade Teacher, Academy of Math and Science; Tucson, AZ- 2019-2020
2nd Grade Teacher, Seitz Elementary; Fort Riley, KS- 2017-2019
2nd Grade Teacher, Washington Elementary, Junction City, KS- 2012-2017
