Defining Moment In Education

As an educator, I aim to provide my students with experiences that will have a deep impact on their lives. In December of 2017, I had the opportunity to take some of my students to participate in the 2017 Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, GA. While attending the trip, I was able to take my students to the church and grave site of Martin Luther King Jr. This particular event was of extreme significance as many of my students from Detroit had never had the opportunity to see this location, especially as young black students. During the trip, we began to have deep discussions about MLK Jr. and his impact on our world today.

For me, the arts are something that everyone enjoys and there are so many ways to apply the arts in our everyday personal and professional lives. My goal as an educator is to engage and tie together both critical and creative thinking to solve real world problems in the lives of my students. My students may not become professional artists, but they will learn how to think link one and apply these skills to whatever their passion is in life.
