Mr. Don Palandech

Fall 2022 marks the start of my second year of teaching chemistry at Ironwood Ridge High School. I graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. With my commission, I immediately entered flight training to earn my Navigator Rating. That began an exhilarating series of flying positions qualified in USAF fighter aircraft; first F-4 Phantoms, then F-111 Aardvarks, and F-15E Strikeagles. With my family we lived in Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom (UK), and several locations in the Southeastern United States. This included time at the Pentagon and three years with the Air Force weather and tactical air controller squadron with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There were a number of trips to Southwest Asia throughout these times; with my last trip being to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom at a base with along with USAF, Army, and Navy and international forces from Iraq, Italy, Poland, Romania, and the UK. My final Air Force position brought us to Arizona, and me to teaching, as the Commander of the Air Force ROTC at Arizona State University. Upon Air Force retirement, we came to Oro Valley to live while I worked at Raytheon.
