Mrs. Sarah Vance

Hello!  My name is Sarah Vance and I can hardly wait to meet the Copper Creek kids and community.  My husband Rich and I just moved here in June from Fort Collins, Colorado.  We, and our two children (they're adults now) have been coming down here for the past 28 years to visit my parents, but I never imagined I would have the opportunity to actually live and teach down here!

 Defining Moment in Education

My earliest and most vivid childhood memories are sitting on the piano bench alongside my mother, singing duets.  I begged for piano lessons and began at age 5.  When I was 12, I was ecstatic when Santa responded to my fervent wish for a guitar.

I think the defining moment determining my course of study in Music came when my high school choir teacher selected me for a traveling triple trio,  and appointed me guitar accompanist on several of our concert pieces.  Her confidence in me, coupled with the joy of making music, set me soaring into studying and teaching music.

 Core Educational Belief

A desire to be noticed and valued for one's uniqueness and giftings is inherent in every child.  My passion is discovering and drawing that out in each and every student in my charge. Music touches everyone,  and supports and enhances all subject areas and learnings styles, as it is a whole brain activity.  Seizing every opportunity and multi-sensory approach to make learning meaningful, relevant, joyful and successful for students is my daily teaching aim.

 Prior Experience

I started teaching guitar as soon as I graduated from college.  After starting a family and establishing my own children in their elementary school endeavors,  I pursued my teaching certification, and began teaching elementary music in 1999 in Washington state.  A move to Colorado in 2004 led me to a music teaching position at Kruse Elementary in Fort Collins, Colorado, which I held for 13 years.  In 2017, I shifted to part-time substitute teaching for my Kruse colleagues and for my elementary music colleagues across the district. My husband and I moved to Oro Valley in June, and I am very excited to teach music at Copper Creek Elementary.
