Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Karen Maspero
I was born in Morristown, New Jersey, one of eight children. I have six sisters and one brother (he is the baby and spoiled even now at the age of 50). We moved to Jupiter Island, Florida when I was in the 5th grade but returned to NJ in the summer months to a wonderful lake retreat called Green Pond. I have had the incredible pleasure of traveling the world when I turned 18 to exotic places like Europe, Nepal, Japan, Russia, and Mongolia. I settled down in Vero Beach, Florida when I graduated from college to start my teaching career.
I have four children - Danielle, an aspiring young actress in LA; Bay-Taylor, who lives on San Diego and going back to school after 6 years in the Coast Guard; Gray Sky, entering the work force; and Dakota-Creek, who I am sorry to say, passed away several years ago at the age of 11. My husband Nick and I moved to Tucson sixteen years ago after living in Charlotte, NC and a year in Phuket, Thailand. As you can see, we love to travel! Every summer I return to Cedar Mountain, NC where my family run a B & B called the Sassy Goose - it is breathtakingly beautiful!
My favorite sport is tennis, in my earlier days I had the pleasure of playing the circuit with some of the greats, including Chris Evert. I have coached the Wilson's tennis team for the past several years. I play the sax, but not in public and I love to garden.
I received my Early Childhood degree from Florida Southern College and taught kindergarten for 24 years, plus one year of first grade and one year of second grade. While teaching in Thailand I fell in love with my 6th grade students. So back to school I went and received my masters in middle school mathematics and then a specialist endorsement in K-8 mathematics. This will be my fifteen year teaching Math at Wilson and I have to say it is one of the most rewarding experiences I have encountered.
