Mrs. Debbie Emans

Welcome

I have loved teaching kindergarten through third grade and fifth grade for many years now.  Each new grade level became my favorite.  Then in 2012 I took a position as the Academic Interventionist here at Walker Elementary.  Now I have the dream job working with students from all grade levels, K-5.

The positive enthusiasm and open minds that the younger children bring to class makes my heart so full. On the other hand, I really enjoy working with the intermediate students helping them go deeper in their thinking and become more independent learners.  In the end, there is nothing better than helping students reach their potential and build their confidence in reading and math.  My goal is to empower my students by using the right tools, strong instructional practices and encouragement.

Defining Moment in Education

I always loved school and living across the street from my elementary school was a bonus.  I became an aid for many teachers after school and I even babysat for a few of the teachers as I grew older.  Those relationships grew into wonderful role models who encouraged me to follow my dreams of being a teacher.

Prior Experience

Mesa, Arizona is where I started my teaching career in 1987 teaching 2nd and 3rd grade.  My husband, our three sons and I moved to Tucson in August of 1994.  It did not take long for me to return to teaching when I accepted a kindergarten position at Copper Creek Elementary and I have been teaching for Amphitheater Public Schools ever since.

I served as a district Instructional Support Leader for two years working with teachers as a mentor/evaluator, and professional development instructor.  After my two years were completed, I went back into the elementary classroom.  In addition, I was contracted by Northern Arizona University as an adjunct professor to teach evening classes in the area of reading.  I have served as a lead teacher for our summer learning programs and I am currently on the districts DAT team for the State’s “Examining Data to Improve Student Achievement” program.

Core Educational Beliefs

I feel blessed to be teaching at Walker Elementary where all students are valued and supported.   I believe it is my job to help your child enjoy learning, feel loved and feel safe, which will  then empower them to be their very best.  All children can learn.  I believe it is my job to find out how your child learns best and provide them with the tools necessary to be successful in the classroom.
