Mrs. Harriet Demetriou Matiatos

Harriet Demetriou Matiatos has a love of learning as evident by the wealth of knowledge she brings to teaching. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wayne State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with High Distinction.

Continuing her higher education in law school, Harriet received a Juris Doctorate, winning several awards including best brief writer and top 10 oralists in Moot Court. Harriet is a member of the Michigan and Arizona State Bars and practiced law (civil and criminal) before realizing her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher.

Harriet received her Masters of Education from Northern Arizona University and immediately began teaching. This is her thirteenth year at Donaldson and loves being part of a small and caring community. She believes that all children should be active learners in a safe, nurturing environment. She has high expectations for their growth in academics and social responsibility. She believes in engaging students in learning while maintaining rigorous learning standards.

On a personal note, Harriet is originally from Michigan but moved to Arizona after marrying her husband, Peter. They have two children, one who recently graduated from the University of Arizona and the other a sophomore in college. Harriet enjoys spending time with her family. She loves to read, cook and travel.
