Mrs. Lauren Marlatt

Welcome to 7th grade Science and Engineering & Robotics. This is my seventeenth year teaching, and I have been a Coronado Cougar for all of them. I have taught 6th grade Science, 7th Grade Science, Course 2 Math, Math Intervention and Computer Programming, but 7th Grade Science is my passion. And because of the increasing need for more integrated Science learning, I have grown a love for teaching engineering through my elective classes. I know we will have a great year exploring many content areas and becoming scientists and engineers.

Defining Moment in Education

I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I worked in the Social Work field. While rewarding, I knew I wanted to work more "hands on" with kids. I decided to go back to school and become a teacher. It was the best decision I made professionally, because I was meant to be a teacher.

Core Educational Belief

I would love to believe that all of my students will learn the Science content that we work on and remember it forever. I know that this won't happen for all of them. My belief is that all of my students will become critical observers of their world.  I know I am successful when my students ask questions, actively search out the answers and use evidence to back up their conclusions.  These are the true components of scientific inquiry and what I strive to instill in my students.

 Prior Experience

Before teaching, I worked at a place called JW tumbles. I truly enjoyed teaching physical fitness classes to kids and have been to more birthday parties than anyone else I know.  I sometimes miss the "little kids" but I love the middle schoolers.
