Parent letter

* Hola! My name is Lisa Aukee. I am from Upper Michigan (I'm a proud Yooper!) and I attended Central Michigan University. I have been teaching for 26 years, 23 of those years here at CDO. Before that, I taught for 3 years in Marquette, Michigan. I have taught Spanish Levels 1-4, Pre-AP Spanish, and Advanced Conversation. In addition, I also teach AP Psychology, which is fascinating to me!  In my spare time I love to cook, read, paint, play with my pug dogs, travel, and watch football. I am a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan! I travel to Northern Michigan and Wisconsin every summer to visit my family.

*Defining moment in Education:

I always loved learning new things and I always knew I would someday be a teacher. My grandmother was a beloved English teacher and traveled to Europe every summer with students and she inspired me to see the world and learn about other cultures. When I was in college, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Morelia, Mexico after two semesters of Spanish. It was there that I fell in love with Mexico--its language, culture, history, and its people.  I had many other inspirational teachers along the way who saw my teaching potential before I did. They were encouraging and supportive in helping me to be where I am today--doing what I love and was born to do.

*Core Educational Belief:

I believe in my students and their abilities. I believe all students can learn, but it is up to me to inspire, encourage, and support them in that process.  I hope that my passion for my subjects is contagious because i want my students to love Spanish and Psychology as much as I do.

*Prior Experience:

My first teaching job was at Marquette Senior High School in Marquette, Michigan.  I taught Spanish there for 3 years and was also the Freshmen Girls' Basketball Coach and Varsity Assistant Track Coach.
