Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Tenaya Sanchez
Welcome! I'm Mrs. Sanchez, and this is my ninth year here at Canyon del Oro High School. I'm proud to be a Dorado!
I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Arizona with a minor in Creative Writing. My thesis was a collection of poems, so I love teaching poetry! My other literary interests include Shakespeare and Victorian literature. Some of my favorite books are The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay, and To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I was a contestant on Jeopardy!'s Teacher Tournament in May of 2016. I love trivia, and I especially love Jeopardy!
Defining Moment in Education
I've always wanted to be a teacher. The first time I remember wanting to be a teacher was when I was 7 years old. I took my younger brother and all of my stuffed animals, and gave them spelling tests. However, it was when I was in high school that I knew that I wanted to be a high school English teacher. My AP English Language and Composition teacher changed my life, so I wanted to make the same difference in someone else's life.
Core Educational Belief
I believe that every student is capable of learning. Whether or not you love to read, or hate writing essays, there is something to be gained from everything we do in my classroom. My goals for you this year include you finding one book that you love and one life lesson that you take with you into the "real world." Literature has so much to offer, from lessons about other cultures and time periods, to lessons about your own beliefs and values. As long as you approach this year with an open mind, I promise you will find some value.
