Mr. Tarbet
My name is Jeremy Tarbet and I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. I am not your typical automotive teacher, although I came out of industry, I also have an undergraduate in psychology and a master’s in education from the University of Arizona. My career started when I was in high school restoring personal vehicles. I started by restoring muscle cars and selling muscle car restoration parts online to earn money through high school and for college. Since then, I have always been in the restoration, repair, and parts business.
After graduating from the University of Arizona with my undergraduate degree, I worked at Watson Chevrolet until the opportunity arose to become the automotive teacher at my alma mater. After getting the job at Canyon Del Oro High School, I went back to school to receive my teaching certificate in 2012. In 2012, I applied and was accepted to the "Teachers in Industry" master’s program at the University of Arizona. It was a STEM based masters that included three summers of hands-on internship with a local company that was STEM focused. Throughout all of this, I kept my full-time teaching job during the program and personally it has helped me make a connection between science, technology, engineering, and math in the content area of Automotive.
I have served as a SkillsUSA Regional coordinator for three years and Board Member last year. Our Automotive Club has been a member of SkillsUSA for nine years. I encourage our automotive students to show their skills and knowledge at the SkillsUSA competitions.
During the year, I offer three classic cars for restoration work. This experience empowers them to research techniques, apply mathematics during fabrication, and work on a variety of automotive mechanical systems. The students are able to work collaboratively and see how their hard work and problem-solving skills produce a quality product.
Overall, I have been in the industry close to 20 years and I have been teaching at Canyon Del Oro High School for the past 10 years and wouldn't trade it for anything else.
