RESIDENCY MODULE
Objective: Support teachers during their first year in the Amphitheater School District as they improve instructional practices that increase student achievement.
Mandatory for all teachers new to the profession
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participation in the Effective Teaching Conference, July 30 & 31, August 1, 2008
- Participation in two Resident Effective Teaching Training Sessions given by Instructional Coaches and Instructional Support Leaders
- Participation in Residency Orientation
- Participation in a pre-observation conference
- Maintenance and completion of documentation
INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS
- Two (2) scheduled formative (non-rated) classroom observations by an Instructional Support Leader with written narratives, one each semester
- Two (2) unscheduled formative (non-rated) classroom observations by an Instructional Support Leader with written narratives, one each semester
- Four (4) teacher reflections generated in meetings with an Instructional Coach (CAL Forms)
- Two (2) conferences (Teacher, Instructional Support Leader and Instructional Coach) based on written narratives, one following each scheduled classroom observation
- Meetings with the Instructional Coach documented
- A.T.P.E.S. evaluations conducted by site administrator
FIRST SEMESTER--Residency Module - Pre-observation conference with Instructional Support Leader and Instructional Coach (to determine observation schedule and needs)
- Optional planning meeting prior to scheduled observation with an Instructional Coach
- One (1) scheduled formative observation with written narrative prior to September 26, 2008
- One (1) unscheduled formative observation with written narrative prior to December 12, 2008
- Two (2) teacher reflections generated in a meeting with an Instructional Coach (CAL Forms)
- One (1) conference (Teacher, Instructional Support Leader and Instructional Coach), following the scheduled formative observation
- One (1) Resident Effective Teaching Training Session conducted by Instructional Coaches and Instructional Support Leaders
- One (1) Training Session Reflection
- A.T.P.E.S. evaluations conducted by site administrator
- Maintenance of teacher documentation of participation, organized with a Table of Contents
SECOND SEMESTER--Residency Module - Optional planning meeting prior to scheduled observation with an Instructional Coach
- One (1) scheduled formative observation with written narrative prior to February 20, 2009
- One (1) unscheduled formative observation with written narrative prior to May 1, 2009
- Two (2) teacher reflections generated in a meeting with an Instructional Coach (CAL Form)
- One (1) conference (Teacher, Instructional Coach and Instructional Support Leader), following the scheduled formative observation
- One (1) Resident Effective Teaching Training Session conducted by Instructional Coaches and Instructional Support Leaders
- One (1) Training Session Reflection
- A.T.P.E.S. evaluations conducted by site administrator
- Review completed teacher documentation, organized with a Table of Contents
- Sign final paperwork by May 8, 2009
- Paperwork reviewed and signed by an Instructional Support Leader

COMPENSATION Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be eligible for a one time $500 stipend from Career Ladder and will move on to the Entry to Instructional Skills module for the following school year.
